Practical Solutions for Hang Joist Detail
The Challenge.
A hang joist floor with Joto-Vent allows you to keep the foundation low, keep floor height low, and maintain maximum ventilation performance. Yet, this approach also brings unique design challenges:
A) Bending concern of the sill plate. (Cross-grain)
B) Insulation baffles for airflow pathway. (ensuring 1” – 2” airflow pathway)
C) Height adjustment. (since the subfloor & walls sits directly on the sill plate).

The Solution with Joto-Vent Falldown.
By using Falldown cut pieces of Joto-Vent, these issues can be effectively addressed:
1) Sill plate bending : Falldown is installed under the floor joists to minimize cross-grain bending stress concern.
2) Insulation baffles : A 1” – 2” airflow space between foundation and insulation should be maintained for crawlspace ventilation.
3) Height adjustment : Joto-Vent provides a dedicated Shim Plate to achieve proper wall height alignment.
The result: a practical, efficient, and code-aware system for challenging hang joist conditions. Please contact us for more information.
